PLEASE TAKE THIS WITH YOU

I was surfing and happened upon this proclamation. I had just posted about Earth day and thought this was a great way to follow that up.I would like to thank the President for writing this wonderful statement and hope people will take the issue seriously.Obviously it is up to all of use to do our part I sincerely hope there is no onset of short term memory loss as this Earth day passes.
Personally I really dig this place and hope that the children growing up right now will be able to enjoy it also. The time is now to put away all those selfish thoughts and get down to business. Thanks to all that do their part and to those that still don't get it do nothing. When you look at your children or any child for that matter don't be afraid to feel guilty and tell them you just didn't care.

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

The story of the United States is inextricably tied to our vital natural resources. As we enter a new era filled with challenges and promise, we must protect our land, wildlife, water and air — the resources that have fueled our growth and prosperity as a Nation and enriched our lives. Doing this not only fulfills a sacred obligation to our children and grandchildren, but also provides an opportunity to stimulate economic growth.

To achieve these ends, no issue deserves more immediate attention than global warming. Scientists have already observed alarming shifts in the natural world, including thawing permafrost, melting glaciers, and rising sea levels.

Climate change presents a serious test for humankind, but it also provides an opportunity for great innovation and adaptation. The United States has risen to such challenges before, and Earth Day inspires us to transcend differences among nations so we may lead the world in protecting our planet from this global threat.

Americans across the country are working hard to help limit the pollutants that cause climate change and reduce their impact on the environment, but we must do more. Individuals and organizations can plant trees, use energy efficient lightbulbs, drive fuel efficient cars, hold clean-up drives, and teach young people about environmental preservation. Small changes in our daily lives can have a big impact on our environment. Individuals can walk, bike, and use public transportation; buy products with less packaging; and recycle and reuse paper, plastic, glass, and aluminum more often. American families can also save money by choosing energy efficient products, turning lights off, unplugging appliances, and cutting back on heating and air conditioning.

Government and business alike must also take serious and sustained action to protect our valuable natural inheritance. Through investments in scientific research and development, and the vigorous pursuit of alternative and renewable energy, we can create millions of green jobs that allow us to reduce greenhouse gases and excel in a competitive global economy. My Administration is committed to increasing fuel economy standards and putting more Plug-In Hybrid cars on the road, weatherizing millions of homes, and catalyzing private efforts to build a clean energy future. My Administration is also working to achieve a comprehensive energy and climate policy, one that will lessen our dependence on foreign oil, make the U.S. the global leader in clean energy technology, and prevent the worst impacts of climate change.

President Theodore Roosevelt emphasized our obligation to future Americans, saying, “of all the questions which can come before this nation, short of the actual preservation of its existence in a great war, there is none which compares in importance with the great central task of leaving this land even a better land for our descendants than it is for us.” Heeding President Roosevelt’s call, and carrying forward his spirit of determination, we must commit ourselves to protecting our environment and ensuring the health of our planet so we may share the magnificent blessings of our Earth with our grandchildren.

We do this not only to acknowledge the environment’s central role in the development of our Nation but also to recognize the strong ecological interdependence among nations. History has shown that as we sow, so too shall we reap. Let us rededicate ourselves to a world that provides bountiful harvests for us all not just today, but for many generations to come.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim April 22, 2009, as Earth Day. I encourage all citizens to help protect our environment and contribute to a healthy, sustainable world.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-second day of April, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

BARACK OBAMA

Feel free to copy this proclamation and take it with you as a copy or to post.

EARTHDAY 2009 (Love your Mother)

April 22nd

This is a subject that is near and dear to my heart.I have always been really into the outdoors, hiking, fishing and just exploring.I live a very short drive away from the Adirondacks in New York, which are absolutely breath taking.Earth day is about the earth in general but I don't live near the amazon so I wouldn't write about it.On the other hand I do live near the Adirondacks so I will share one of my experiences from my back yard.I'll try to keep it short so as not to bore you but give you the idea , and how it all ties together . Back a few years ago I had a favorite spot,a hold over from when I was a kid . It has awesome native brook trout fishing and incredible hiking . Brook trout are the only natives to New York. Rainbow and browns were introduced latter . Another Alluring aspect of the area is the amount of newts (land living amphibians) and trilliums (a three petaled wild flower) that grow and live in the area.Between that and the series of small waterfalls , you could believe that fairies and gnomes lived there also.Anyways this was my little getaway , really remote and quiet.I never use to see anyone , and any time I brought some one I would make them promise not to tell anyone how to get there. That's how pristine it was and I didn't want anyone to ruin it . One year I was on my way out there and happened to notice that our park agency put up a trail head . It might as well have been a billboard with neon lights. The whole way out I kept praying no one would be there . Even more so that it wasn't ruined.Unfortunately as I was hiking out I kept seeing the signs of uncaring two legged bush beaters.Garbage was just thrown on the ground carelessly. It's so easy to just put it in your pocket and take it out with you.Seeing that just broke my heart,I picked up as much as I could and snarled at the first hiker I saw in hopes they wouldn't do the same.I have since been back but it has never been the same . It felt as if that feeling of childish wonderment had been taken away . I can only just imagine the heart break felt by the indigenous people when they lose a part of their world .
By writing my experience I hope to create an awareness and realization . There is no need to travel around the world to make a difference on Earth day.You can make a difference right at home in your own back yard . So on April 22 do something nice for your mother , plant a tree or just pick up some trash . If each of us just does a little, collectively it helps a lot.Your mother will thank and take care of you for doing your part . Thank you .

Mother Nature Is One Of My Favorite Artists

Nature has always been an inspiration to me . Every where I look there is a million wonders to behold , some are beautiful and some might take some getting use to . Flowers get attention all on their own where as tree bark or root systems need the beauty to be coaxed out of them . This is one of those photos , I hope you see what I saw in these simple yet humble subjects . Mother is one of the best abstract artists I've ever known.
It's amazing what a river can do to a simple bank and tree roots . They almost appear to be dancing with each other. This piece of natural art was years in the making enjoy it , as I'm sure she enjoyed making it for you .

If you look close enough you might even see an image that I have used in another earlier post . Let me know if you found it .
