IN THE RAW (WHAT DID MASTERS DO?)

I was recently in NYC visiting with a life long friend of mine, just hanging out with him and his wife talking, cooking and just having a genuine good time.I always love going down to the city to visit and walk around (and I mean walk) a lot. It's the only way to really see anything plus it makes you feel real good getting the exercise. If you live there , and have to get some where quick then yea,by all means you take the train or bus(which is pretty awesome for those of you who like to window shop on the fly).Since I had nowhere to go real quick like,I walked.Amazed by everything I discover. It's almost like you find something new around every corner and believe me I sniff it out like a freaking bloodhound. From smoky Chipolte peppers in Chelsea market to a $450,000.00Rolls Royce parked outside a warehouse(actually not really to unusual in the city). This time my buddy before mentioned, who I happened to have a Iron chef smack down with(that's a whole story in it's self),told me of a art supply store to check out.Not Pearl or any thing like that, which are great places that I do frequent. No,this place blew my mind.I don't know if any of you ever saw the "Girl with the Pearl Necklace".It's about Vermeer the Dutch painter known for his beautiful interpretation of light.Well he,as well as the other artists of his time couldn't just go to the art supply store and purchase paint in a tube when ever they wanted. So what did they do you ask? They mixed they're own.Can you imagine that, pretty cool if you ask me.Now I know you can purchase powdered pigments ,a medium and make your own. This store took it to another level .At this place not only can you buy the pigments, mediums and mullers , but the raw materials too.I'm serious ,if you want authentic colors like the old masters this place will blow your mind. The name of the store is Sinopia. If you live in NYC its easy enough to find them, they're at 247 W 29th street on the right if your heading west about a block or two from the big post office.Ok, if your not from the city go to www.sinopia.com you can find out more info there on they're site.Raw materials and all kinds of other art supplies for painters check it out.If you are a purist, aspire to be one or just want to experiment I believe you'll be as blown away as I was and still am.Have fun with your art, experiment and don't close your mind.I hope you all enjoyed this bit of info. The pic's are from the NYC store.Take care every one and have an awesome day.
This isn't an add for them, I just thought it was a cool store and I needed to share it with my readers, if anyone was curious about that.

In-the-raw-what-did-the-masters-doThis is a pretty good view of the bags of raw materials. It's pretty amazing.I plan on trying to mix some of my own paints from the raw at some point. The colors are just so vivid and in your face bright,it really inspires you.How can it not?

In-the-raw-what-did-the-masters-doThis is a close up on one of the many bags of raw materials they have.Go to the web site to see a list of all the materials they have.

In-the-raw-what-did-the-masters-doAs with most places in New York all the stores tend to be long and narrow.Space is always at a premium. The store has quite a large supply of materials.I also did ask about posting this material on my blog if anyone was wondering .I got the Ok.

In-the-raw-what-did-the-masters-doThere it is.I'll be posting again real soon with another of my paintings so don't get to anxious.I just like to give as many people as possible the opportunity to read or view a post.
